Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that triggers inflammation in cells and tissues throughout the body. It affects the immune system, which is designed to protect the body against infection. With Lupus most common type, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), the body creates antibodies that attack its own tissues and organs such as the skin, heart, lungs, kidneys, and brain.
Did you know... Lupus is among the most serious diseases in the United States yet the least recognized. While the condition has become more and more widespread, awareness and knowledge has taken the back seat. There are approximately 1.5 millions of American and 5 million people worldwide known to be affected by the disease with the majority being women between the ages of 15 to 45.
